We are most pleased with all of the work and service provided by the Coulson team in the renovation of our house which we purchased in June 2024. This is the second time we had renovation of a house done by the Coulson group and both times we have had an excellent experience. The team organized the design, selection of materials and sourced the materials from contractors who were excellent, timely in provision of service, and responsive to any questions arising. The Coulson group coordinated the provision of the various contractors, including design, material selection, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, flooring and painting. All was done to a timetable and schedule of progress which was provided to us and to which we could measure progress. The work quality was excellent and in many cases exceeded our expectations. The schedule was adhered to and project management oversaw the various subcontractors and the work in a very responsive manner. In short, we are very happy with the use of Coulson Design for our project, they did an excellent job and were a real pleasure to work with, including both in-house Coulson staff and the various contractors. We would strongly recommend this firm for building and renovation on any project arising.

David Coulson Design and his crew have done several large and small projects for us. The first was a major renovation of the kitchen and living area. The second major project was converting our storage basement to a pleasant suite with a full kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and living area including French doors to the back woods. Most recently David Coulson Design built the woodwork required for our platform lift. These and additional smaller projects were well designed and carefully constructed. He and his crew do excellent work, are friendly and efficient and we highly recommend them for small and large projects.

David and his team worked with us on a kitchen renovation in 2016 and created a marvellous space. Years later we had some issues with the kitchen cabinet drawer facings. True to the high standard that David's work enjoys, he arranged for the replacement and refinishing of the cabinets and returned the work to its pristine state. That is the mark of a true professional, one who stands behind the quality and craftsmanship of his work. We would not hesitate to recommend David for any work that demands high quality and integrity.

The rock work around our gas fireplace on the main floor was in bad condition. Rocks had fallen out and the mortar was crumbling. We wanted to have a flat gyprock wall installed around the fireplace.

David found time in his busy schedule for our small project. His team were polite, punctual and informative and paid close attention to detail.

Glenora Farm is a BC registered charity that provides wrap-around residential and day program supports to adults with complex developmental disabilities. We embarked on the process of building a 7 bedroom, 5 bathroom, duplex-style licensed care facility on a working farm in early 2019, needless to say, our needs were complex and multifaceted.
Over the last number of months, our organization has worked closely with all members of the David Coulson Design team. David and his team have deftly led us through the design / build project and we are grateful for the skill, dedication, experience, and sense of humour the DCD team brought to the table every day; their expertise, creativity, and commitment to the project is evident when you look at the end result, a beautiful and comfortable Farmhouse. We have had no issues obtaining a licensing permit and are settling in comfortably to this well laid out and aesthetically pleasing house.

My wife and I met with David twice in April 2018. We wanted to hire him to do a complete renovation of our waterfront house on Salt Spring Island.

David told us that prior to signing a contract and paying him a retainer fee, that he would produce a draft concept for us in 3 - 4 weeks (charging us an hourly rate) so we could make sure we were on the same page before deciding to work together.

Months went by with no word from David. I would politely follow up with him every couple of months by phone or email, and he would tell me that he was either really busy, out on his boat, or in Vancouver dealing with a sick friend in the hospital.

David always told us to keep waiting, as our house design was in the works. We eventually agreed that we would meet at the end of October to review his plans. David chose the date, and suggested a firm deadline would be helpful.

He then cancelled the meeting with less than 24 hours notice because he had nothing to show us.

In total, over 8 months went by, without any follow up from David or his office. On December 31, we emailed David a polite note informing him that we were going to make other arrangements (figured we'd start fresh with someone else in the New Year)

A week later, we get an email back from Dave suggesting that we weren't actually 'paying customers' and that he wasn't willing to work on 'speculation'.

This floored us. Of course we were paying customers! All he needed to do was complete the work he agreed to do, and send us a bill!!
